common diet mistakes

Common Diet Mistakes – “Diets don’t work.” It’s a general expression that’s used to dismiss common fad diets (and understandably so)…

But it’s not particularly helpful if you intend to change your eating habits in a healthy manner.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the Common Diet Mistakes – 7 Most Common Mistakes To Avoid When Dieting

Yeah, losing weight can be tough — it’s definitely more difficult than just eat less and exercise more.

But with a basic understanding of what could possibly go wrong, it is entirely possible to avoid common dietary traps and establish a healthier relationship with food.

Here Are 7 Common Diet Mistakes, And Tips On How To Prevent Making Them.

1. Not Eating Enough

It seems counter-intuitive, but you have to eat to lose weight, explains Josh Muskin, a CrossFit L2 Trainer — he frequently sees diets go wrong when people miss meals to build a calorie deficit.

“If your body doesn’t recognize when its fuel arrives, it’s beginning to panic and establish backup storage,” he says…

“The backup storage comes in the form of body fat, and it’s your body’s way of reserving things to be used to burn energy if you’re going for a long time without having food.”

He advises that you concentrate on real, whole foods and often eat within 30 minutes of finishing your workout.

2. Beginning To Adopt a Diet Mentality

Telling oneself that you’re on a diet might potentially work against your long-term health and weight-loss goals, says certified nutritionist Paul Claybrook, since the notion implies a temporary solution.

“Going on a diet, expecting you to lose weight after you’re finished, is a formula for failure,” he says.

Instead, he suggests concentrating on lifestyle improvements that can be maintained over time.

3. Cutting Off Carbs

Carbohydrates get a poor reputation due to processed snack foods.

But this macronutrient, found in grain, fruit and vegetables, is crucial to the fundamental human functioning.

“If you remove carbs, you appear to have less energy over time, and you can experience brain fog and sluggish metabolism,” says Emily Cornelius, certified and licensed dietitian.

“It occurs because the main and desired fuel source of our brain is glucose [which released from carbohydrates.”

Cornelius advises eating fiber-rich carbs that are believed to grow in the stomach, consume fat, and create a feeling of fullness.

Her go-toes include broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, legumes, quinoa, blackberries, and raspberries.

4. Poorly Done Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting

Limiting eating to a set time of day can help dieters decrease their intake — many intermittent fasters abide by the 16/8 rule — but only if they eat healthy during their meal hours.

Only fasting will not encourage weight loss if your total caloric consumption and food quality have not improved.

5. Trying To Eliminate Fat

Don’t fall for grocery store marketing — a fat-free diet does not really mean you’re fat-free.

“Having sufficient good fat in our diet can be equivalent to body fat, despite common belief,” says Rachel Fiske, a certified personal trainer & wellness expert.

It is highly recommended to take moderate quantities of good fats such as olive oil, ground linseed, organic nuts, avocados, grass-fed butter , ghee and coconut.

6. Not Getting Enough Sleep

Research indicates that having less sleep than recommended which is 7 to 9 hours can affect weight-loss efforts. Adequate sleep is key.

Having imbalance hormones can lead to low levels of energy and increase the cravings for unhealthy food.

7. The All In or Nothing Mentality

The most successful diet is the one you can truly adhere to.

Each person’s life looks a lot different, so you have to ask yourself what steps you can take effectively,

Know this: there’s going to be challenges along the way.

Challenges when dieting

Don’t try to overcompensate when your diet plan doesn’t go as intended…

It doesn’t mean missing food or making up for it the next day.

Instead, she says you can let go of any mistakes and use the next meal as an opportunity to make the best decision possible.
